Magical Land (2009)
Soulful, vulnerable and hopeful roots rock music by Jim Dyar Band has brought them a dedicated following from their recordings and performances for several years. From odes to outlaws, heroes, and pirate rockers, to a chorus that summons a savior to the dance floor, the Jim Dyar Band returns with its latest release, Rembrandts on Red Walls, the follow up to 2009’s Magical Land. Rembrandts is an album that paints and rides outside the lines but keeps listeners nestled in an addictive pocket of melodies. In addition to songs by Dyar (vocals & guitars), the album also features fresh material by Torri Pratt (vocals) and Tracy Manuel (drums, percussion, ukulele, guitars, vocals), a swampy traditional sung and arranged by Morgan Hannaford (bass, mandolin, vocals). The release also features Rick Larsen (piano, organ, vocals) and guests Martha Boyle (fiddle) and others. Recorded at After Hours Recorders in Redding, CA.
"Dyar's music offers a feast of recognizable influences from Merle Haggard to The Byrds. His band has more than earned its spurs on its debut album, 'Magical Land.' - Johan Shoenmakers, Alt Country Forum
